San Pedro Church of Taboga: A 1685 Landmark

January 9, 2021

A historic landmark on the island, this is one of the sights to visit as soon as you arrive on Taboga. Standing at the heart of the village, it’s a testament to how devout the Taboga community is — the village itself was founded around it.

Its two patron figures are the Virgen del Carmen (July 16) and Saint Peter the Apostle (June 29), honored with colorful water processions.

It’s the second church ever founded on the Pacific coast of the continent (1685).

When visiting the island, don’t stay only on the beaches: take the time to walk around a little and appreciate the history of this beautiful place that Taboga has to offer.
