Taboga Panamá

Pirate Bazaar in Panama and Government Investment

March 8, 2016

A dream of mine ever since I started playing at Taboga’s pirates has been to put together a pirate-themed fair where I could show off not just my beautiful island, but make it fun for kids and adults alike. Back in February, the #YoMeReciclo fair invited us to take part; it was held at Panamá Viejo, we had a great time and took a ton of photos. The experience was so good that they invited us back for a Pirate Bazaar this time — a gathering spot for all of Panama’s pirates (how crazy does that sound) — for the March edition, and we’ve already started putting together part of the setup we’re bringing; it’s our first real experience off the island.

Along with this, there’s the investment the government is sending Taboga’s way: they want to throw pirate parties on the island. The catch is they want it to stop being Captain Jack Sparrow and become Henry Morgan instead — great idea, turning me into the pirate who destroyed Panama and having me spend all day apologizing for wrecking the country’s heritage. Well, we’ll see what these folks come up with; honestly, I love my character and I don’t think I’ll be swapping out Jack. What I can do is put together the best possible Morgan and see how people take to it.

I’ll leave you with a couple of images from the pirates’ participation at Panamá Viejo, and my idea for the Morgan costume I want to build.
