El Morro and La Restinga in Taboga: Where the Names Come From
December 18, 2019
El Morro is an islet connected to Taboga by a sandbank; that beach is called La Restinga. But why those names?
“Morro,” according to Spain’s Real Academia de la Lengua, refers to a rounded or steep crag, or a low hill. “Restinga,” per the same source, is a sandbar lying just beneath the surface of the sea.
Both names, in fact, correspond to these very landforms; I’ll leave here a few shots of El Morro in Taboga, taken from different spots.
