Art Everywhere: A Mural Idea for Taboga
May 12, 2020
The island has always had a connection to art, which is why I’ve long thought a mural program on Taboga would matter — not scattered at random, but with dedicated spots designed for artwork, so the island can be full of color.
One idea worth exploring would be to join forces with the fine arts department at several universities, so that one of their student projects becomes painting water tanks with designs representing the island; these tanks would be repainted once a year and reassigned depending on their condition.
The artwork would be graded by professors and donated to the island by the students themselves, as part of a trip that could count toward their coursework. That way, different universities get involved, and the island gains more color.
