A Weekend with the Wilkins Family
September 21, 2010

The day started very early, me waiting at the agreed spot, ready for a trip to the island; it dawned sunny, which made me happy, since it had been pouring rain the night before. The boat ride, as always, was spectacular: the kids (Paula, Camila, Dante, and Marcelo) spent the whole time watching ships enter the canal and the occasional seagull fly overhead, me chatting with Carlos about the island, and Mónica chatting with a group of tourists who ended up staying with us at the house.
As soon as we arrived we changed into beach clothes and ran to La Restinga; they played on the beach, went on an adventure — according to the youngest one — walked around El Morro, swam, jumped off a rock at El Morro, took photos, had a ton of fun, never got tired. They stayed on the beach until 6 pm, then played at the house and rested; after that I joined the other group, since it was time for the adults to head out. We went dancing at Bar Chu, it was packed, and I danced until I couldn’t anymore — literally, since I had to leave them at the bar and go rest around eleven at night.
The next day started very early, with breakfast at Popeye’s, where it seems there was a hiccup, since whoever was serving couldn’t keep up with all the tables and orders came out incomplete; but well, those are things that need fixing.
We ran back to the beach, where I, camera in hand, took photos of them jumping off the rocks at El Morro; it was all a lot of fun, a very family-friendly vibe. By the time we got back, a friend, Daniel, and his son had joined the group; the kids played and the adults, beer in hand, enjoyed the sun and the sea. At noon we ate skewers made by local women from town; the afternoon carried on with games and laughter until it was time to pack up and catch the boat back.
All in all a lot of fun and very much a family outing; I hope they had as much fun as I did on that trip. Greetings to the Wilkins family, hope we get to do it again soon.
